Lost: 20 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References You Must See
16. Lucy's Reference To The Office
Episode: Homecoming Yes: believe it or not, but there's a bonafide reference to Ricky Gervais' hit BBC TV series The Office in an episode Lost. The moment occurs when Charlie's brief love interest, Lucy Heatherton, tells him in a flashback scene set in England that her father is "out of town buying a paper company in Slough." There's no way to pretend that this is anything other than a reference to David Brent, who (shocker) works in a paper merchants based in Slough. J.J. Abrams has admitted on many occasions that he's a huge fan of The Office, and it's nice to see that he was willing to implement a reference to show as far back as 2005 - just as the US version with Steve Carrell was airing for the first time. Interestingly, Abrams also went on to direct an episode of the US remake. So... Much... Accidental... Foreshadowing.
