Lost: How It Should Be Re-Cast In 2021
3. Kate Austen - Emma Mackey
Like Sayid, Kate's biggest problem (apart from being stranded in the middle of nowhere) was the fact that she harboured a dark past. As a criminal on the run, she had to work hard to build trust with her fellow survivors, which led to a very compelling journey.
It would make sense to cast someone here who has credibility but is also waiting for a big break to take them to the next stage of their career. With that in mind, it seems that Emma Mackey - better known as Maeve from Sex Education - would be a perfect choice.
Mackey bridges the gap between sweet/caring and aggressive/intimidating incredibly well, and that's something that would work for Kate. She needs to have a sense of fire to her, but also a desire to do good by everyone else, and that's something Mackey can bring by the bucket-load.
Casting her would make Kate complex, likeable and rough around the edges, in just the right way.
