Love, Victor Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

4. Nick Robinson's Return

Love, Simon Nick Robinson

Having narrated so much of the season, it felt inevitable that Nick Robinson's Simon Spier would show up at some point. In fact, it felt so inevitable that when we found out Simon had conveniently left New York on the same weekend that Victor arrived, it was hard not to feel a little disappointed - something that the film's Keiynan Lonsdale more than made up for seconds later.

The beauty of it all, however, is that he did show up for a brief cameo in the episode's closing moments as Simon and Victor crossed paths in New York in the meeting we were all waiting on. And it was a completely justified moment too; one that never took away from the show's protagonist. If anything, it felt like a passing-of-the-torch moment.

Simon's mentoring throughout the season made his eventual appearance feel more-than-warranted, and while the scene's brevity - and the smoke-and-mirrors used to hide the fact that he wasn't actually on-set for the bar scene at the same time as the rest of the cast - robbed us of an official reunion between him and Simon's boyfriend Bram, it was just so great to see Robinson play his most famous role again.
