MacGyver Season 3: 6 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Bravo Lead + Loyalty + Friendship'
Ups...
6. The Emotionally Charged Mission
Viewers love to unwind on a Friday evening after a long days work, and MacGyver has proven on several occasions that it's the perfect show for such an occasion (the large viewing figures further reinforce this). In spite of the CBS reboot's penchant for fun, however, it's still very much capable of hitting us where it hurts.
Bravo Lead + Loyalty + Friendship is proof of this. While the episode contains plenty of action, it's also a very emotionally charged hour of television. The reason it proves to be so heart-wrenching is because the central mission is connected to one of our protagonists, and therefore we're drawn in from the word go. It's incredibly clever of the writers to concoct a mission that has a personal connection to one of our heroes, because following the news of Jill's demise, it just wouldn't be believable for the team to move on to another standard plot-of-the-week mission.
MacGyver doesn't strive to be the deepest show on television, but that's not to say it's not deep. The writing is always great but, every once in a while, it's spectacular.
