While cheating on your wife is, of course, a faux pas, there's nothing necessarily bad about BDSM. When Don begins a fling with his neighbour Sylvia Rosen, it seems she'll be another notch on the bedpost and little more. Quickly though, things get a bit weird. The audience shouldn't be surprised: the dominatrix thing makes a lot of sense when you think about the character's list of personality traits - it should be no surprise he gets a kick out of controlling his partners. It's not even that things get violent. They don't. It's just that Don's version of BDSM is a bit... esoteric. Sylvia is perfectly happy to do the whole crawling about on her knees thing, but when he stops her from reading, things quickly go downhill. It seems his take on 50 Shades of Grey is to bore his partner to death - ironically not too different from that particular film's effect on audiences.
