Making A Murderer: Where Are They Now?
4. Kathleen Zellner Continues To Fight For Justice
Those who watched Making a Murderer’s second season will know that Kathleen Zellner is a force to be reckoned with. If anybody can prove Avery’s innocence, it is she, and that is exactly what she aims to do. Zellner continues to be integral in strengthening his case, regularly bringing forward new evidence and tenaciously arguing for her client’s rights to be upheld.
Avery is not Zellner’s only high-profile client. The attorney is currently handling many other cases, with her focus as always on wrongful convictions. Over the years, she has represented a myriad of people from all walks of life, including one of the victims of infamous former United States national gymnastics team doctor Larry Nasser, and the now-exonerated Kevin Fox and Mario Casciaro, both of whom were falsely accused of murder.
Recently, she has been making great strides while working on the intriguing case of Shan Fieldman. Fieldman was convicted of hiring a hitman to murder his ex-wife. Considering that this so-called hitman was actually an undercover cop, it seems like a cut and dried issue on the surface. However, a vast amount of vital contextual information was not permitted to be used during his trial, meaning that the soundness of the jury’s decision to convict him is questionable. Thanks to Zellner, Fieldman won the habeas corpus before the 7th Circuit Court in August of this year, enabling him to legally dispute the validity of his detention.
