Marvel's Jessica Jones Season 2: What Does The Ending Really Mean?
3. Malcolm Allies With The Competition (But He'll Probably Be Back)
Despite the fact that Jessica has pretty much done the opposite of mentoring him since taking him on as her assistant, Malcolm has somehow blossomed into a private detective of some repute and skill. By the end of the season, he looks like he's headed towards working for himself and competing with Jessica (after Jeri refuses to take him on full-time).
Somewhat surprisingly, he actually ends up working with Jessica's shady rival Pryce Cheng who is willing to do things Jessica simply is not. In other words, he'll bend the law to get results, which is why Jeri hires him. And while we don't see him immediately balk at the suggestion of those sort of practices, Malcolm does look a little taken aback at the suggestion that he'll have to go a little rogue.
The likelihood is that Malcolm won't stay with Cheng all that long. They're simply too different - not least in their moral fabric - and Malcolm's reaction to Trish using the inhaler suggests he's pretty dead-set against extreme, dangerous approaches to getting results. He'll be back working with Jessica sooner rather than later - even if she'll probably just defer to treating him poorly.
