Although Luke Cage is its own thing, it also needs to fit alongside the other Netflix Marvel shows. They're all a part of the same universe, with Cage himself originating on Jessica Jones, and will be coming together to form the Defenders. Similarly, given the huge quality of those two, it needs to be able to match them on that front.

On both counts, it appears as though the show has succeeded.

JoBlo say in their review that "it fits right in with it’s predecessors" while managing to maintain its own distinct feel, while Heroic Hollywood adds that it "definitely matches this big world that Marvel Studios has built."

ComicBook.com says that "there's plenty of fan service here...the producers include a healthy dollop of in-universe referencing to both Daredevil and Jessica Jones - all of which will be eaten up by longtime fans."

"...Like its predecessors, Luke Cage boasts an excellent cast, tremendous atmosphere, and a willingness to go places that other Marvel Studios productions can’t." - Den of Geek
