Marvel's The Defenders: 10 Reasons To Be Excited

8. Elodie Yung's Return As Elektra

Though plenty felt that the Elektra plot in Daredevil Season 2 detracted from the ostensibly superior Punisher story-arc, there's no denying that Elodie Yung is fantastic in the role. It makes sense, then, to be excited about her imminent return to the MCU, right?

Well, yes. It may not be the traditional version of the character that we're seeing this time, due to the fact that she's emerging from - you know - that whole death thing with a nasty case of amnesia, but it's still Elektra. We've been given brief teases of her battling Matt and co. in a random office block, so one would expect that The Defenders' attempts to lure her away from Alexandra's grasp falls at the first hurdle.

Indeed, Weaver has described her character's relationship with Elektra as a "strange" one, perhaps hinting that the dynamic between the pair isn't as clear cut as one would've thought. It certainly sounds as if Elektra is being manipulated in some way or another, and - if that is the case - it'll be interesting to see how that relationship plays out onscreen. You know that Matt hasn't got to be at all happy about this post-death arrangement, so expect this to be yet another very personal conflict.

Amnesia plots are so-and-so in TV and film, but here's hoping that Yung and Weaver's charisma is enough to make it feel convincing. Don't hold your breath if you think she'll be staying in the dark side for long however; we all know there has to be a bit of the old Elektra in there.
