Marvel's The Defenders: 8 Huge Questions From The New Trailer

5. Is Anyone Going To Take Iron Fist Seriously?

Danny Rand is without a doubt the odd man out of the Defenders.

In one conversational scene in the trailer, Iron Fist attempts to explain his abilities to the other members, to no avail. Yes, a blind guy with superhuman hearing, a woman that can jump up a building, and a man with unbreakable skin think that chi-centered superpowers are obviously not a thing. Go figure.

Early reviews have pegged Rand as the de facto leader of the Defenders, which kind of feels like the USS Enterprise being helmed by Captain Wesley Crusher. This may seem like an idiotic choice for the series until you realize that filming didn't finish until March 19, 2017, two days after Iron Fist, and all those terrible reviews, came out.

Hopefully the group dynamic will change, and it won't be three adults following a small child around New York City for its entirety. Iron Fist is supposed to be a legendary warrior, but the trailer definitely treats him as more of an annoyance. He should be an equal member of the team.

It's fine if he's more upbeat and comedic than the rest, which shouldn't be too hard given the dour nature of Jones and Murdock. Just as long as Marvel doesn't do what they do best (worst?) and completely overload the series with annoying quips.
