Marvel's The Defenders: 8 Things That Must Happen

1. Pave The Way For The Next Phase

So far, Marvel's Netflixverse has followed the template of the MCU movies - introduce the heroes in their own vehicles before teaming them up in a big crossover event. It will be interesting to see, then, whether the Netflix shows also adopt the movies' system of "phases".

If it does, everything up to this point would be Phase One, as the shows so far have depicted the Defenders coming together, with the Hand as the major threat. Next time, more heroes would presumably be introduced with a new major threat bumbling under, ready to be defeated in the next The Defenders mini-series.

Assuming this is what Marvel is planning, it would be great if this could be teased somewhat in this series. One of the strengths of the Netflix shows is that they are all interconnected, with a clear vision running through them (see: the Hand's long-running plot to dig a hole in the middle of New York), so a hint at what's to come would not only be exciting but also kind of expected.

One of the most common rumours among fans is that the Netflix shows will be headed in a mystical direction in the near future - some think that Weaver's villain will be revealed to be Mephisto (effectively the Marvel universe's Devil). This is probably a bit far-fetched, but it would feel right if Marvel began to explore the supernatural side of the MU within these shows, as that is something not really being touched on in the movies.

It doesn't need to be a major element of The Defenders, but just a hint at what we have to look forward to is essential. Maybe stick, say, Blade in a post-credits scene at the end of the finale? What, we can dream, can't we?
