Marvel's The Punisher: 10 Perfect Stories Netflix Could Adapt
7. Welcome Back, Frank
The '90s were an interesting time for comic books. They gave birth to some of the most amazing stories of all time such as The Age Of Apocalypse, and at the other end of the spectrum, some of the most popular characters in comic books were relegated to nothing more than cheap tie-ins and laughable cameos. Unfortunately, The Punisher was one of these characters. Someone even tried to give Frank Castle supernatural powers, and I'm not even kidding.
Thankfully, the previously mentioned (a lot) Garth Ennis stepped in to save the day with his back-to-basics reimagining of The Punisher in the year 2000. Welcome Back, Frank was filled with non-stop brutality and violence as well as some of the most outrageous and best humour the skull-clad vigilante had ever seen.
Ennis did an amazing job of centering his Frank Castle in an out-of-this-world world while keeping him as the solemn-faced hero who's just out for vengeance. Ennis' writing was so wonderful, that he even had Castle fight a polar bear without being even the slightest bit cartoonish (okay, it was a bit cartoonish, but it worked!). Ennis' experience on Preacher shifted perfectly over to the Marvel Universe, and was the rebirth of the edgy Punisher that we all used to love.
