Marvel's The Punisher: 10 Perfect Stories Netflix Could Adapt

2. Valley Forge, Valley Forge

The Punisher Jon Bernthal
Marvel Comics

Valley Forge, Valley Forge was Garth Ennis' final arc on Punisher, and it was an in-depth look at Frank Castle's psyche at its most basic level. Pitched against a band of Marines that at one time he would've called brothers, Frank is torn between his loyalty to the Marines, and his loyalty to his new life as The Punisher.

Valley Forge, Valley Forge intelligently wrapped up Ennis' Punisher run by tying stories from the last 4 and a half years together when eight US army generals decide to send a Delta Squad after Frank. There's a lot of violence involving terrorists, Russians, a biological weapon - on the outside it could seem like Marvel Presents 24 (which is definitely a good thing), but it goes a lot deeper than that.

Ennis used this story as a way to revisit Born, and develop The Punisher's origin story even further - it's an origin story with none of the overplayed set-up you see in pretty much every other origin story. It allows us a hall pass to Frank's psyche, and find out what really makes him tick. While Valley Forge, Valley Forge is a deep story, it is also filled with the action you'd expect from a classic Punisher arc. It's everything a Netflix series needs as a starting point.
