Marvel & ABC Developing The Avengers Universe For TV!
Marvel's TV division are deep in talks with Disney's ABC Studios about producing a television drama series set in The Avengers world.
After The Avengers soared earlier this summer and became the third biggest film of all time, it comes as no surprise to hear that Marvel are looking at alternative ways to expand their universe beyond film. Deadline reports that Marvel's TV division are deep in talks with Disney's ABC Studios about producing a television drama series set in The Avengers world. The show probably won't feature any of the characters from Joss Whedon's film, at least certainly not straight away (future cameos seem certain) but it will be set in the same universe and "feature some of its themes and feel". The project is in the very early stages of development but a number of different scenarios are being explored. One idea floating around is to develop a "high-concept cop show", likely Marvel's version of Gotham Central and would allow the TV show to develop C-list and other obscure characters from the Marvel universe that could eventually breed to the big screen. There are no writers yet hired so this is some way from coming to fruition just yet. And we should remind ourselves that this isn't the first time we've heard about Marvel looking to bring their comic book universe to the small screen. Guillermo del Toro is of course currently working on producing a Hulk TV show that would most likely have a connection to the film universe and that may or may not star Mark Ruffalo. That project has recently stalled as it is in need of a re-write.
