5. Luke Cage
Premieres: Likely Fall 2016 Unlike Daredevil, Jessica Jones' first season had the task of introducing two future Defenders in one: The titular character and her future husband, Luke Cage. And while the show was very firmly the former's, Mike Colter's performance in bringing the latter to life for the first time was well-received, setting up a lot of hopes and expectations for his own solo outing. Arriving later this year, the series will see the character in Harlem after the events of Jessica Jones, squaring off against Mahershala Ali's villainous Cottonmouth, who will hopefully be able to live up to his Netflix predecessors Wilson Fisk and Kilgrave. On top of that, Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple will be joining him, comic characters like Shades and Misty Knight will be a part of the show, and Alfre Woodard will be playing Cottonmouth's cousin Mariah Dillard, likely an adaptation of long-time Cage enemy Black Mariah. His appearance in Jessica Jones barely scratched the surface of the character, and the prospect of learning more about him and his origins, seeing Colter continue to flesh him out, and discovering how the events of his series reshape the Netflix landscape ahead of The Defenders is exciting.
