There are going to be very few problems related to Jon Bernthanl’s portrayal of Frank Castle in this article, but there was something about his official, physical introduction to the series that bothered me immensely.

Frank’s leisurely stroll down the hospital halls to finish off Grotto (Castle isn’t a man of half measures) was a scene of cinematic beauty but it was his use of a shotgun, a weapon known for its spread, and unleashing its fury that had me a little stifled.

Now, The Punisher and a shotgun go together like ramma lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong but not only were there civilians clearly in the line of fire, Karen was also running beside Grotto the entire time. Yes, Frank is an expert marksman but the spread of a shotgun is not as predictable as that of a semi-automatic weapon; he could have easily clipped and/or killed an innocent.
