Fans were prepared for season 3 to tackle the classic comic book storyline Born Again, which meant we knew what to expect of Karen: basically, she was going to hit rock bottom, likely also meeting the same fate that occurred in Guardian Devil (another influence on this run). In a smart move, though, showrunner Erik Oleson kept those comics' focus on Karen but created its own storyline that bolstered her character instead of reducing her to a damsel-in-distress.
The highlight of the season for Karen is obviously episode 10, which reveals her tragic past across two thirds of the episode. It's a clever bit of wrong-footing as it sets us up for her death which never happens. Thankfully so, as Deborah Ann Woll gives her greatest performance as Karen so far this season. Just watch how good she is in that scene where Karen reveals all to Fisk.
It would be a great loss to Daredevil's ensemble if she was written out. She's honestly one of the most complex, fascinating female characters in the whole of the MCU.
