Marvel's The Punisher Season 2: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best
9. John Pilgrim
On paper, the idea of a preacher-turned-assassin is a good one, as the hypocrisy of such a person could make a neat contrast with Frank's rigid morality. However, Pilgrim is such an underwhelming presence throughout. To prove how much of an afterthought he is, no one even bothers to mention his name until several episodes in.
Similar to the Schultzes, Pilgrim is mostly disconnected from Frank for the whole season. Josh Stewart delivers an often chilling performance, but the show never really capitalises on the potential of making him a terrifying bogeyman figure that we can't wait to see face the Punisher.
The finale does its best to ramp up our sympathies for him, as he is portrayed as an anti-Frank - another killer doing whatever he can for the kid(s) he loves. The twist that Frank has let him live to run off with his sons doesn't really come across as a happy ending, though. Just as Frank is right to send Amy away from him, those boys would be a lot better off without their maniac father.
