MCU: 10 Comic Stories We Want To See In Marvel's What If...?

7. MJ As Spider-Girl

Similar in a way to Spider-Ham, there’s some licensing issues and potential Into The Spider-Verse knots with introducing Spider-Girl. However, it’s far from the only entry here to have complications attached, so let’s park these for now and speculate.

In the comics, Spider-Girl is Mayday Parker, offspring of Peter and the true MJ, Mary Jane Watson. Our MCU MJ, played by Zendaya, is actually called Michelle and is only really named MJ in tribute to the original source material; for all intents and purposes she’s an original character.

So why not repeat the trick with Spider-Girl? Rather than a flash forward where Peter & MJ have a kid, What If could essentially ask the question What If Zendaya’s MJ was the one with the superpowers, and use Spider-Girl’s narratives as a bit of a jumping off point.

She could either share spotlight with Tom Holland’s Spidey or strike out on her own. Far From Home showed she didn’t exactly love swinging through New York City, but perhaps if she was in control she’d like it more.

MJ is a massively popular character and it would be a shame if Sony’s deal cut her out of What If.
