At San Diego Comic Con in 2019, Marvel mapped out their entire Phase Four plans, with the inclusion of original Disney+ content for the first time ever. While What If…? was confirmed to be bringing a quite ridiculous amount of previous MCU stars back, the only person to join Kevin Feige on the stage was franchise newcomer, Jeffrey Wright.

In recent years, Wright has grown and grown in Hollywood stature, and his casting as Uatu the Watcher was met with much excitement from the MCU fan base. Rightly so, as his voice lends the character the gravitas suiting a cosmic being of such mystery and power.

The problem however, is that after episode one, it seems that his talents could be being woefully underused. Instead of any real meaningful role in the franchise, he was reduced to a few sentences to set up the episode, the majority of which were part of the opening credits, and few at the end in conclusion.

As the series goes further and further, there is a chance that this could change. However, he reminded viewers once again that he could not and would not ever interfere with the events of these stories, so it seems unlikely.
