How I Met Your Mother: 5 Great Things From The 200th Episode

3. Connecting The Dots

Perhaps the most frustrating thing about How I Met Your Mother aside from the nine years its taken to tell the story is the constant near misses between Ted and The Mother. They were fun and cute at first, but have become somewhat tedious the longer the show has gone on for. Fans were at least told where Ted would meet her at the start of Season 6, leading them to believe it would be at Punchy's wedding only for the writers to throw a twist that it was in fact Barney's. It has taken a long time since then to actually get to the wedding (the show's not even there yet either!), but the episode went a long way to connecting all the dots and seeing the near misses from The Mother's perspective, including a couple viewers didn't even know about, namely the green dress. Fans had long wondered about Ted's run-in with a woman at the St. Patty's bar, believing her to be The Mother and theorized the team would re-shoot that scene so it would be Milioti Ted bumped into, but they kept the scene as it is, adding The Mother to a conversation at the other end of the bar. The writers went to great lengths to connect all the dots they could on Ted and The Mother's journey to meet each other which once again delivered payoffs for long time viewers.
