How I Met Your Mother: 5 Great Things From The 200th Episode
2. La Vie En Rose
The final few minutes of 'How Your Mother Met Me', as mentioned previously, really climaxed on the emotional front with the unexpected proposal The Mother faced. Viewers saw firsthand how reluctant she was to move on from Max as she spoke to an empty sky asking if it was okay. Even with his 'permission' she still couldn't come to terms with the possibility of moving on, heading to the Farhampton Inn for a room and serenading herself to 'La Vie En Rose' while, unknown to her, Ted listened next door. These minutes made viewers really connect with The Mother. It's no surprise Cristin Milioti's rendition of 'La Vie En Rose' was extremely touching and well done as she's a Broadway performer. What was also funny was Curtis' knowing smile as he handed her the keys to her room. His few appearances have been fairly comedic as he always worried over Ted's single status at such a romantic place as Farhampton and his friend's wedding. Using Curtis as a secret matchmaker was not only clever on the writer's part, but a surprising payoff to his constant worry. One can wish the writers had gone one step further by having Ted poke his head around the balcony to speak to her, but the scene was admittedly perfect as it is.
