As we've mentioned before, one of the best parts about watching the show from Elliott's perspective is that things are rarely as they seem. For a large portion of the second season, fans believed that Elliot had moved in with his mother, was living a life off the grid and, most importantly, was staying away from the computers that got him into so much trouble in the first place.
Whether it was his interactions with people or the situations he regularly found himself in, things seemed out of place and odd. However, things began to make sense during a conversation with his psychiatrist, Krista. It turned out that Elliot was not at home atll, but was actually in prison and was using the fake reality he had created to deal with his predicament.
It's just another moment in a long list of times where we've been unable to trust what Elliot is showing us. It's actually the sort of thing that makes the show such a fun rewatch as you can see the genius in some of the plot decisions made.
