My Hero Academia: 10 Best Episodes

5. Shoto Todoroki: Origin

All Might One For All My Hero Academia

A thrilling aspect of My Hero Academia is how well it balances its tension. On the one hand, you'll see the characters fighting for their lives, but on the other, they're just competing against each other. The UA Sports Festival arc is an excellent example of how things don't need to turn deadly to be exciting, and this is inarguably the peak of that narrative.

After advancing to the second half of the Sports Festival tournament, Midoriya and Todoroki stand against each other in a contest. You learn about Shoto's past and his relationship with his father (Endeavour), with Midoriya encouraging him to embrace his tragic history to become a stronger hero.

It's easy to say that Shoto Todoroki is the show-stealer in My Hero. His compelling half hot half cold quirk is exciting, and his relationship with Endeavour is writhe with emotion. This outing sees that all come to a head, as you see the depths of his childhood trauma and watch as he grows as a person.

Besides being a great character study, it's also a frigging spectacle, as the clash of the character's quirks looks terrific and delivers on some stunning action set-pieces.
