Presented in a horrifying image that proves once again that Horikoshi Kohei, My Hero Academia's creator, would make an amazing horror manga artist, is the revelation that Tomura Shigaraki is no longer himself - in the most literal sense.
After waking up from his nearly four-month long recovery, having been experimented on and enhanced by the mad doctor Daruma Ujiko, Shigaraki reaches heights and powers beyond imagining. He's able to take on All For One (AFO)'s ability to store multiple quirks, and regenerates from attacks that might have once destroyed him.
These enhancements, however, come with a price. As it turns out, despite AFO's encouragement to become his own person, Shigaraki becomes another victim of his many lies, turning Shigaraki into a vessel for AFO's will, forcing Shigaraki to become an unwilling passenger in his own body.
Spinner, who's perhaps Shigaraki's closest friend among the League, notices that Shigaraki is no longer in control when he doesn't recognise him in his own body. Deku gets to see this all go down in a shared consciousness between All For One and One For All, where Shigaraki continues to fight for his autonomy while AFO's quirk holds him hostage.
