The biggest issue with Koji is that he's got all the tools necessary to be a strong character. He's endearing, quite sweet, has a helpful power (controlling animals) and a moderately eye-catching look. Sadly, despite those plus points, he's ruined by certain creative choices and his lack of exposure.

Firstly, he spends the initial seasons not speaking, which means he's playing catch-up to the others when he finally gets round to it. This isn't Komi Can't Communicate, so not talking really made him fall behind.

In addition to this, when he eventually does get chatty, nothing really changes. He's always in the background and doesn't get a spotlight focus. It almost seems that he was placed into the show for the purpose of looking funny at the back of the class.

Thanks to all of this, it's impossible to get to really know him, which is why he's so low.
