Narcos Season 2 Review: 8 Ups & 3 Downs

Ups

8. The Tone Is Darker

And you thought season one was harsh, with its epic body count and general disregard for human life and dignity, right? Season two takes things to a whole new dimension by mostly stripping away the fun, Goodfellas-esque tone and focusing on the atrocities not only committed by Escobar and other drug dealers, but the morally ambiguous behaviours of those on the "good" side.

It's clear from early on that the law is getting increasingly desperate in its quest to shut Escobar down, and so while the drug kingpin's actions are unquestionably inexcusable, viewers may well find themselves wagging a finger at the supposed heroes of this story also.

That's not to say that season two is relentlessly grim or without humour, but simply that the swagger of what came before has been pared down in favour of more serious storytelling. It's no bad thing as long as you're not faint of heart or stomach.
