Narcos Season 2 Review: 8 Ups & 3 Downs
7. Stronger Female Characters
It's fair to say that Narcos' first season was fairly lacking in compelling female characters: Steve's wife Murphy was more of an irritating soap opera flourish and Escobar's wife Tata was mostly just a compliant mob housewife.
Thankfully things are a little different this time: Connie is barely in this season at all, while Tata takes a far more assertive, active role as she feels the net closing in on both her husband and her family entire.
Then there's the re-emergence of Judy Moncada, who plays a significant role in the season as Escobar's chief drug rival, also out for revenge for the brutal murder of her husband Kiko last season. In addition, there's Maritza (a young mother inadvertently ensnared in Escobar's circle), and Claudia Messina, a DEA attache sent to Colombia to try and assist with the operations there.
The strong female presence is much more potent this time around, and the show is all the better for it, especially as it pertains to both Tata and Moncada, who are easily two of the season's big highlights.
