Netflix's Friends From College Review: 2 Ups And 4 Downs

2. It's Lazy

Friends From College
Netflix

The setting best exemplifies the laziness involved in creating Friends From College. It's another show about people living in New York, doing the stuff regular people living in New York do. The main problem about the location is shared by almost every New York sitcom - the show doesn't take into account the rental prices. These people clearly don't make enough to afford their lifestyle.

Instead of being a show about students who never grew up, Friends From College is a show about students, who just look older, yet are as much free from any serious obligations as if they were at college. This is pretty convenient, but also pretty cliche, since apart from Lisa they have time for everything apart from work. Even Sam, who has two children, doesn't have to take care of them - her only obligation is picking them up from school.

The characters find themselves in rather typical sitcom situations: they have to attend a play their friend's playing in and pretend that it doesn't suck, take care of a friend's animal and fail at it, or take drugs in order to come up with an idea, yet spend their time procrastinating. Apart from episode four, these people never do anything interesting.
