Netflix's Gypsy Review: 2 Ups And 6 Downs
3. Dream Sequences
When will filmmakers learn that dream sequences are just a waste of time? They rarely contribute anything of substance to the show. Instead, they slow things down. Well, a show like Gypsy doesn't need to slow things down even more.
The series is presumably about the subconscious, so it's understandable why the visions are there, but if they're so important, why doesn't the show rely on them as a storytelling device?
When Sam has a vision of Jean and Sidney touching each other, he tells about it - albeit excluding Jean - during therapy! When Jean enters a bar, she has a vision of Sidney coming in in a red dress and kissing her. Immediately afterwards she enters the bar, Sidney is dressed differently, but they kiss as well.
What's the point?
