It's no surprise to know that Studio Mir, the same animation studio behind The Legend of Korra and the Guardians of the Galaxy television show, would once again deliver another amazing series in the form of Voltron: Legendary Defender. But what makes it stand out compared to the already vast amount of animated shows currently on Netflix?

The characters' designs across all of Studio Mir's shows emote very easily and expressively to bring drama and tension to even the most subtle of scenes. With so many characters in this reboot of Voltron being put in comedic and dramatic scenes across the series, their actions and facial expressions easily fit with the series and offers a strong use of animation compared to some of Netflix's anime and western animated content. While anime hits like Attack on Titan and Cowboy Bebop have characters who express in each scene effectively, it's just rare to see other animated shows take on so much responsibility like this when it comes to characterisation.

But it's not just the characters who have been given great detail. With the fluid computer animation given to the monsters and robots that take place in giant battles, it helps to keep the action moving without a single stutter to make the fights fun while adding extra shine and sleek effects to these glorious machines.

Furthermore, the backgrounds have been given a painted look help to make these glorious behemoths stand out further across a wide landscape. This approach helped to make the characters pop out as well to give them focus in scenes, whether they are simply talking in a village or running through a dangerous corridor.
