Netflix's Hollywood Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs

1. It Spirals Into Its Own Decadence

Hollywood toys with some really interesting ideas and introduces us to some real interesting characters while it's at it. And believe me when I say that we will get to the good stuff shortly.

However, while the show's admirable attempts to rewrite history for the better provides it with some absolute cracking moments, it's hard to deny that it spirals in its bid to do so. Maybe it's that eccentric Ryan Murphy tone or just the fact that everything - even the unnecessary stuff - is so loud and in-your-face, but the eccentricities of it all make it hard to take in the good moments because some of the main characters rarely behave like real people.

There's an irony in the fact that a show designed to highlight the very vacuousness of some of the elements of Golden Age Hollywood falls victim to that very same thing, and that ultimately undercuts a lot of what it's trying to say.

Now, for the positives...
