7. Has Clay Been Granted Total Freedom?

An alliance with Renee's sister would be useful, but she is not by far the only character with the potential for a greater role in Season 2. Despite playing a relatively small part in most of Season 1, Clay was a vital participant in Edward Coventry's defeat.

As of now, his specific whereabouts are unknown. Jack mentions Clay's name when speaking to Alyssa in the graveyard, suggesting that Clay was not deactivated after fulfilling his purpose in the temple. More importantly, Clay is off on his own without any apparent orders to follow whatsoever.

Rather than treating his golem buddy like a simple errand boy, it appears that Jack has granted Clay some measure of autonomy. This means that Clay is free to explore the wonderful world of human emotion that so deeply fascinates him.

It also means that Clay may play an important role in saving the Knights of Saint Christopher from whatever fate Vera has in store for them. Clay was not targeted by the memory wipe at the end of the season, and it is unclear whether golems would be affected by a memory-altering spell such as the Respondeo Incantation. If he has both his freedom and his memories, then he may be the best candidate to help Jack rediscover his identity in Season 2.
