Netflix's Tiger King Review: 8 Things We Learned
3. Exotic Animal Zoos Sometimes Get A Little Culty
In all of the Joe Vs. Carole madness, the fascinating story of Exotic's mentor, Mahamayavi Bhagavan Kevin Antle or just, Doc Antle, a polygamous wildlife enthusiast and owner of Doc Antle's Myrtle Beach Safari is almost lost in the shuffle.
Despite only being prominently featured in the second episode of Tiger King, Antle could well be the main focus of a separate documentary series thanks to the fascinatingly odd way his nature reserve operates.
In the sophomoric episode, we meet Barbara Fisher who saw an internet advertisement of Antle's sanctuary and decided to travel down to become an apprentice in Antle's sanctuary. After changing her name to fit the quasi-Indian vibe of the establishment, Fisher became part of Antle's stable of romantic partners.
Fisher goes on to detail how she and the other workers were subjected to unsanitary living conditions during their time with Antle and were forced to work brutal 12-hour shifts, seven days a week. Fischer also describes being coerced into getting breast implants by Antle and claims she only decided to because the recovery from surgery would offer her a brief respite from the nonstop work.
