Netflix's Tiger King Review: 8 Things We Learned
4. Joe Exotic Twice Attempted To Become An Elected Official
Despite already being embroiled in a costly legal battle with Baskin, facing serious issues in his romantic life, and allegedly struggling with drug addiction, Exotic embarks on a pair of political campaigns throughout the series, unsuccessfully attempting to be nominated as both Governor of Oklahoma and President of the United States.
While the bid to become president was obviously just a publicity stunt that gained almost zero traction from the get-go, Joe's ambition to become the Governor of his home state actually came relatively close to fruition.
Positioning himself as a libertarian, despite his campaign manager Joshua Dial stating that he doubted Exotic even knew what a libertarian was, Joe's campaign actually received a modicum of attention in the race to be the party's candidate for the state.
Joe promoted his campaign in the way only he could; handing out condoms and rolling papers with his face on them, and holding rallies at his zoo in the hopes of becoming the first-ever libertarian Governor of Oklahoma.
Ultimately though, Exotic was again unsuccessful, coming third in the Libertarian primary but still managing to earn a respectable 664 votes in the process.
