New Girl: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best
3. Season Three
Season three of New Girl does something really brave with its premise that ends up being a stroke of narrative genius: It brings Nick and Jess together after two seasons of attraction, but then breaks them up.
The fact that this didn't alienate fans who had come to see the pair as the perfect match just shows how strong the series was going into its third year. The entire season takes risk after risk - Schmidt cheating on Cece, Coach returning to the loft, and the gang meeting Prince - and makes each of them payoff beautifully.
Alongside the risks, New Girl's third outing is also where the show started to really dig deep with its drama, especially where its Schmidt/Cece heartbreak is concerned, and where Winston really starts to come into his own as the show's odd resident prankster.
There's witty bottle episodes, romantic entanglement and effective drama, and it all comes together to make season three one of the show's best instalments.
