Obi-Wan Kenobi Part VI Review: 9 Ups & 1 Down
3. Obi-Wan Vs. Darth Vader... Again
Amongst all the episode's many highlights, the greatest is without question the latest duel between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader.
Now back to full strength, Obi-Wan proves to be a worthy match for the Sith Lord, and due to Vader's rage he eventually defeats him, slashing his mask apart to reveal Anakin's burned face and hate-filled eyes.
It's an astonishing sequence, mirroring their Mustafar duel brilliantly (Obi-Wan even starts it by saying "I will do what I must," before striking his iconic lightsaber pose), and adding great depth to Vader's anger since he still can't defeat his former master.
As great as the duel is, though - fast-paced and painstakingly choreographed - their face-off's strongest moments comes from its dialogue.
His mask broken and face revealed, Vader's voice eerily alternates between the booming voice of James Earl Jones' and the spite-filled snarl of Hayden Christensen, bringing to life both the man he was and the man he's become in a chilling scene that causes Obi-Wan to accept his "friend is truly gone."
Darth Vader coldly proclaiming "Anakin is gone. I am what remains," and "You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker, I did," deserve to be talked about as one of modern Star Wars' greatest moments.
