What a great week to be Olivia Colman. The Academy Award Winning actress from The Favourite is up for yet another Oscar this Sunday for her sublime work in The Father and has just entered negotiations to join the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe set Disney Plus series Secret Invasion.

Given the MCU’s great track record for their Disney Plus originals, such as Wandavision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Secret Invasion is shaping up to be another exciting show for Marvel, especially with Colman’s potential casting.

Colman joins an already impressive cast, which will be led by Samuel L. Jackson, reprising his iconic role as former SHIELD director Nick Fury. The cast also includes Ben Mendelsohn, returning as Talos from Captain Marvel, as well as One Night in Miami star Kingsley Ben-Adir, who will make his MCU debut as the series’ main antagonist. Kyle Bradstreet of Mr. Robot fame will serve as show runner, so these talented actors will likely have sharp material to work with.

Though it’s unclear what role Colman will play in the upcoming show, she could easily bring another Skrull to life. The shape shifting aliens, first introduced in the MCU in Captain Marvel, were the main focus of the Secret Invasion comic book. Casting Colman as a character who can change shape would allow for the versatile actress to effectively play a few different roles: the Skrull form, as well as a potential human alias or two. These multiple roles would allow Marvel to make the most of Colman’s talent.

Hopefully, Colman sticks around in the MCU even after Secret Invasion. An actor of her caliber could bring a good deal to the universe.
