Once Upon A Time: 10 Characters Who Totally Got The Shaft

3. August

ouat august I€™m starting to think that the first rule of Once Upon a Time is €œdon€™t be from Pinocchio.€ The Blue Fairy, Archie, and now Pinocchio himself all had little to nothing to do in Season 2. August getting the shaft is particularly egregious because of his pivotal role in helping Emma break the curse way back in Season 1 and the obvious romantic chemistry the two had (on another note, Wooden Swans? You need a better ship name, August/Emma fans.) Despite his major role in the Season 1 finale, August€™s only appearances in Season 2 were in flashbacks of Neal€™s past and one spectacularly lackluster episode where he spent most of the episode moping around, was killed, and was then regressed back into a child. Of course, there are rumors that the actor wanted out of the show-but surely they could have done a better job than simply pressing the magical reset button! What made this all the more horrible was Rumple's conversation with Neal, where he suggested that he could de-age Neal for a second chance at a family and Neal, rightfully so, told Rumple just how bad an idea that was. To have August written out in a way that other characters acknowledge as bad is simply baffling. His departure episode was possibly the show's laziest example of writing out a departure for a character that had entertained us all so much during the last half of Season 1.
