9. Red Velvet Isnt A Thing
Correctional Officers Scott ONeill and Wanda Bell are out for a spot of breakfast (doughnuts, what else?) when the server asks ONeill if hed like to try out the new red velvet flavour. It seems like a fairly innocent question, but sparks a meltdown from the officer that is one of the funniest scenes of the season. He embarks on a rant that completely tears apart the very notion of the flavour - red velvet isnt a thing - and hits on a fairly true and important point: The only good thing about it is the cream cheese frosting. This set up works out even better when its followed by them seeing an ad for prison officers at Litchfield. As expected, a man who gets so worked up about a doughnut doesnt take the possibility of losing his job too well. It all comes full circle when the guy who tried to sell him the red velvet applies for the job, and later ONeill marches into Caputos office to confront him about the situation, only to be told his job is safe. However, there is one problem - Caputo is about to eat a red velvet doughnut. ONeill snatches it away from him, telling him that red velvet is s**t!
