8. Helen Is Executed By Navarro
After her amazing debut in the second season, Helen Pierce' return as a series regular felt like another great character for the show to sink its teeth into. But much like Ben Davis; Helen's swan song in season three was just as unexpected, if not as visceral.
In the season finale, Helen seems very confidant that she will take over the Byrde's operation, but following Marty and Wendy's daring move to sell one of Navarro's rivals to the FBI- the Byrde couple proved themselves to be useful allies, and unknowingly sealed Helen's fate in the process.
As soon as Marty, Wendy and Helen arrive in Mexico, Navarro has Helen's bodyguard Nelson execute Helen on the spot. Blood sprays on the Byrdes, and before they can even process what just happened, Navarro calmly puts his arms around the couple and celebrates the start of their new relationship.
Not only is the surprise death of Helen a shock, but the tone and pace of the scene chillingly closed an already tense season. Navarro's gentle embrace of the Byrdes is a threat to them that should they choose to cross him, they'll end up the same way as Helen.
And what better way to fade to black then with a Run The Jewels track? Which, on any other day, would be much welcome.
