Ozark: 10 Most Disturbing Moments
4. The Cartel Money Bomb
Now that's how you start a new season.
Season three finally took audiences to Mexico, where Omar Navarro played a prominent role on screen and established his relationship with Marty and Wendy. To set the tone of the season, and highlight to audiences how bad the Cartel wars have been escalating; the opening scene of season three shows a Cartel enforcer murder rival smugglers, detonate a bomb, lure civilians to a shower of cash, and then detonate a second bomb.
The moving parts in the scene could be ripped straight from a cold open in "Breaking Bad", something Ozark has been compared to a number of times in the past. But it really must be highlighted how unflinching and visceral the scene is. Innocent lives being collateral damage in Ozark have been a huge factor since episode one, but audiences never saw anything as randomly chaotic as this.
The way in which the camera tracks and stays on the box containing a bomb as a horde of unsuspecting civilians gather round to stuff their pockets with cash is a looming, uneasy threat that is only perfected by a fade to black and the show's eerie title credits.
Welcome to Ozark, season three.
