Ozark: Ranking Every Main Character Worst To Best
11. Jonah Byrde
Jonah is an improvement on Charlotte but he still takes up too much screen time. Jonah has a fascinating psyche that leads him to make rather strange decisions that boys his age wouldn't ordinarily make to protect his family. This is what gives him an edge over his sister.
After finding out that his father launders money for a Mexican drug cartel, Jonah develops a morbid curiosity with dead things and violent cartel crimes, he also takes an interest in learning how to shoot a gun. Jonah just wants to make sure his family is safe even if he is the least equipped member to do so.
With an emotionally distant and constantly busy father, Jonah begins to attach himself to male role models. First, he gravitates towards Buddy, the dying man that lives in their new house with them. He teaches Jonah how to use a gun and has a genuine affection for the boy. After he dies, Jonah then falls in with his uncle Ben.
Jonah's strongest material comes at the end of Season Three after Ben is killed. Jonah goes to Helen's house with a shotgun planning to kill her to avenge Ben and protect the family but Helen manipulates him into turning against his mother. It's a great scene and sets up an interesting conflict for the final season.
