1. Alfie Solomons

You didn't think we could get through this list without mentioning Alfie Solomons did you? Portrayed by Tom Hardy, Alfie hardly needs an introduction. A Jewish gang leader from Camden, Alfie first appeared in season two after he requested Tommy's help in the ongoing turf war between his own gang and the Italians.

Thanks to Tom Hardy's outstanding performance, Alfie became a quick fan favourite. His alliance with Tommy hit a blip in season three as Tommy believed Alfie was responsible for his son's kidnapping - the duo attempted to kill each other but thankfully, the misunderstanding was settled.

Their relationship took a downturn in season four though. Alfie plotted alongside Luca Changretta causing Tommy to track Alfie down and kill him. Having been diagnosed with skin cancer, Alfie gladly accepted his fate and we thought this would be the last we saw of the character.

Plot twist: Alfie survived. In season five, Tommy visits a now-retired Alfie to ask for his men's support in the fight against Oswald Mosley. This is our favourite aspect of Alfie - his unpredictability. You're never quite sure whether he's an ally or an adversary.

Alfie seemed pretty settled into his new retired life in Margate so we're not sure if he'll appear in season six but it's definitely something we'd like to see. Mosley is certainly the type of villain who could unite Tommy and Alfie once again in a fight against a common evil. For now, we'll have to wait and see whether Alfie has one last blaze of glory left in him.
