Pennyworth: 9 Ups And 5 Downs From "Pilot"
8. Setting The Tone
To capture the feel of the 1960s setting of Pennyworth, the minds behind the show strike the right chord straight away by opening proceedings with The Rolling Stones’ Paint It Black.
Musically, the tunes used throughout this pilot offering perfectly capture the spirit and verve of its time. Added to that, the imagery conjured up by this first episode is utterly stunning – as in, the buildings, the fashions, the streets, the cars. Everything!
Sticking with the fashion, specifically, and special praise must go to the absolutely glamorous fashion sense of Paloma Faith’s Bet Sykes.
Considering that Pennyworth is set in the aftermath of a fictional war of which the audience aren’t privy to when exactly it took place, the look and all-round vibe of the show’s present day makes sure to remind you that this is most definitely set in the swinging ‘60s.
