Pennyworth Trailer Reactions: 5 Ups & 1 Down

1. Jack Bannon Is Already Great

Look there's no way of understating this, Alfred Pennyworth is a big deal.

Not only is he one of the most well-known comic book characters of all time, he's been portrayed by a who's who of Hollywood icons and veterans, including Michael Caine and Jeremy Irons, so it's safe to say that actor Jack Bannon has some rather large shoes to fill (especially as he's taking over the reins from Gotham's brilliant Sean Pertwee).

Judging by the trailer, it appears that this tall task is no absolutely problem for Bannon, who, in a few brief jumbled clips, absolutely nails the quirky nature that Batman's charming butler is renowned for. Sounding like Michael Caine and fighting like Sean Pertwee, this Alfred is very much an amalgamation of what we've seen before, but he's also something else entirely - and that part of his personality is all down to Bannon.

Hardened by war and determined to move forward, this Alfred was never meant to play a supporting role in anyone's story and, if the trailer is anything to go by, Bannon's unique iteration is set to steal the show.

Jolly good, Master Pennyworth.

Now, for the negative....
