Picard: 15 ESSENTIAL Star Trek Episodes To Watch First (And Why)
1. “Collective” (Voyager - Season 6, Episode 16)
And finally on our journey towards Picard, we have the season 6 episode in which Voyager comes into contact with a rundown Borg cube whose only inhabitants are five children drones. One of the drones is Icheb, who goes on to become part of Voyager's crew.
Once more, though, the episode is more important than its cast, because Icheb's past, which is later revealed in "Child's Play" (which is also worth adding to your pre-Picard watchlist) explores the ethics of exterminating the Borg. He was, of course, born to be a biological weapon against them, which the Federation could also have used.
Icheb is so far unconfirmed for Picard, but there is a very real sense that Seven is isolated and has been through significant trauma, so it might not be out of the realms of possibility that she has lost Icheb along the way. After all, the two were close.
There are, of course, other Voyager episodes that could matter, given Seven Of Nine's presence and the role of the Borg, but these mentioned should cover most of what comes up.
