Preacher Season 3 Premiere: 8 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Angelville'
5. The Humour
The tone of Preacher is one of its most attractive features. The writing is incredibly witty, and even in the bleakest of situations, we find ourselves struggling to contain our laughter due to the clever one-liners or the hilarious fight scenes.
Angelville dealt with a lot of dark storylines, what with Tulip's death, the hints of Jesse's troubled childhood, the introduction of Marie L'Angelle, and the bleak flashback that detailed L'Angelle's heinous actions towards her own daughter. That's a lot of darkness for a 41-minute episode, but thankfully there was a lot of humour present throughout. Interestingly, it was Cassidy that provided us with the side-splitting moments, and actor Joseph Gilgun's delivery was on the money. For example, when Marie L'Angelle made her first appearance, Cassidy added levity to dark moment by remarking that Jesse's grandmother is "unattractive".
Much like he has been for the past two seasons, Cassidy was the MVP of Angelville.
