4. The Focus On Only One Storyline

Preacher has struggled in the past with balancing multiple arcs, so the absence of several of the show's side storylines made Angelville a much stronger episode.

As the focus of Angelville was Jesse and Cassidy's attempt to save Tulip's life, all of the other arcs understandably came second. This meant that the search for God storyline, as well as characters like Herr Starr and The Saint of Killer's were all absent. Not only did this allow the show to devote more screen time to our mourning protagonists, it also gave the showrunners the opportunity to introduce us to the new setting and - more importantly - all of the new characters that come with it.

If we had seen the likes of Herr Starr or The Saint of Killers this would've diluted a very important episode. Additionally, the show is already struggling to balance those two antagonists, and the fact that we've met a third in Marie L'Angelle doesn't bode to well for future episodes, but at least the character was given top priority for her introductory episode.
