4. A Load Of New Characters Are In The Pilot Script
An early look at the pilot script by the website Nerdist noted some changes from the comic book, with the addition of new characters and some who differ slightly from the source material. Lucy Griffiths has been cast as Emily Woodrow, a no-nonsense single mother, waitress, church organist, bookkeeper and Custer's loyal right hand. Elizabeth Perkins will be Vyla Quinncanno, a friend of Jesses father who owns the local slaughterhouse (changed from the despotic KKK leader Odin Quinncanno in the comics). Derek Wilson is the abusive Civil War re-enactor Donny Schenck, who regularly beats his wife Betsy, played by Jamie Anne Allman. From the looks of it the show will start by looking a little more into Jesse Custers past, something which was mostly explored in flashback during the comics run, which started in medias res with the journey to find (and quite possibly kill) God by the Preacher driven by divine, violent and foul-mouthed purpose.
